Standard-based Grading and Reporting

First, what will be new with grading?

Evidence. We are looking for evidence-based grading and assessments before we report out to students & parents

2015-16 Step One

  • "I Can" Statements or Standards should be seen by parents, and students on each assessed (graded) assignment/ activity.
  • "I Can" Statements or Standards should be seen by parents, and students on each item assessed in the digital gradebook.
  • "I Can" Statements or Standards will be on student displayed work in hallways.
  • Grade book descriptions will align to standards and standard skills in a student/ parent friendly "I Can" statement.

We are taking steps to transition into Standard-based Grading and Reporting as a district.

This page is designed to give you information as we move through the process. For more information, you can access the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) web page at http://www.isbestandardsbasedreporting.com

What is Standard-Based Grading?

Standards-based grading "involves measuring students' proficiency on well-defined course objectives." (Tomlinson & McTighe, 2006). The visual below compares traditional grading with standards-based grading practices.
